What is Builder Gel?
Builder Gel is used when you want to create thickness and add strength to your gel manicure. It has a thicker consistency and harder finish than regular Gel Nail Polishes, so once applied it strengthens your nails to prevent bending or breaking. This can help with the longevity of your manicure as well as promoting nail strength and growth. If your gel manicures aren't lasting as long as you'd like due to your nails bending at the tips, snapping or breaking, then Builder Gel is for you!
How do you use Gelous Builder Gel?
Applying Builder Gel
Builder Gel should be applied after your Base Coat. It acts as a strong, smooth layer that is typically used before your Colour Coat and Top Coat. Its thick consistency means it’s best to wipe your brush inside the bottle rim before applying 1-2 thin coats as you would apply your regular Gel Nail Polish, curing after each coat. When applying Builder Gel it is particularly important to leave a small gap between the Builder Gel and your cuticle to avoid flooding of the nail bed. If your Builder Gel looks a little bulky or uneven on the nail tip after curing, wet a Lint Free Wipe with Nail Polish Remover, wipe the nail and file it down for a smooth finish. You should also wipe your Builder Gel coat if you are applying nail art after, as this removes the sticky inhibition layer, providing a smoother surface to paint on.
Removing Builder Gel
When removing your gel manicure, it’s important to note that you don’t have to fully remove Builder Gel unless you have lifting. Builder Gel is a thicker, harder consistency than your other layers of Gel Nail Polish, so it often doesn’t remove fully. Once all your colour Gel Nail Polish has been removed, you can lightly buff your nails with the fine side of the Gelous Nail File to smooth out the left over Builder Gel. If you do wish to remove your Builder Gel completely, you may need to re-soak your nails for an additional 10 minutes or so once you have removed your colour Gel Nail Polish.
Infilling Builder Gel
When you're ready to reapply a gel manicure, you simply start with your usual nail preparation, followed by your Base Coat. After curing your Base Coat, you can then infill your Builder Gel. Starting near the cuticle area, gently push your Builder Gel towards the cuticle, leaving a small gap. Following this, pull strokes up to the tip of the nail and cap it. Once the whole nail is covered, apply a dot of Builder Gel in the middle of your nail and let it slowly disperse, giving a nice curve to the nail and filling in any gaps. Flash cure your nail for 10 seconds, before moving onto the next nail. Once all nails have been painted with Builder Gel, cure for 60 seconds, then continue with your Colour Coat.
Does Gelous Builder Gel Help Nails Grow?
Builder Gel can be an amazing tool to help your nails grow. Its strength and rigidity prevents your nails from bending and breaking, which not only helps with growth of your natural nails, but also helps your gel manicure last longer. As you don’t need to remove Builder Gel completely, this layer of strength stays on your nails, keeping them strong and less likely to break between gel manicures.

"Wow! This Builder is fantastic! As an ex nail tech it is one I can highly recommend. I have been using it on myself and clients and can’t fault it. One client is a cleaner - her hands are in and out gloves, water and cleaning products. They have always chipped after a couple of days and with Builder Gel they have done the test of toughness and lasted a a couple weeks without chipping. My nails personally have not been this long in years! I am very rough on my hands and they are just standing the test of workouts, cleaning and my busy life."
"Highly recommend this!! I've used it twice now and my nail polish has not chipped yet. I found that it helped my nails becoming stronger and they are no longer breaking."
"It's a little tricky to work with at first, as it's so much thicker than gel, but once you get that down its a game changer! Gel manicures usually last 2 weeks for me before they chip due to my lifestyle, but using Builder Gel made my manicure last 3 weeks and I only removed it because it was growing out. Amazing!"
